Columbus - OTR

Well, despite the threat of green and yellow and red splotches on the radar late this afternoon, I was already packed up and the dog was at the kennel and I asked myself, for the first time on this little adventure, "what would Buffalo do?" Would he pussy up and hold out until the morning or would he biker up, put on his gear and saddle up? Well, I knew the answer to that one before I saddled up...

So at 6pm, I pulled out of the drive and was on my way. I had donned the rain pants, jacket and skid lid in preparation for the onslaught that awaited me. Huge gray, menacing clouds spread across the horizon, beckoning me like the snake to Eve. Come partake of the open highway.. And so I did. I got rained on pretty good, but that is just part of riding a motorcycle. Good riding gear makes all the difference in the level of misery. Funny but I don't recall seeing too many fellow enthusiasts venturing out in that mess, but I did meet one when I finally checked in to my hotel room outside of Columbus.

Gary was on his way to Connecticut from Indiana. He's a 45 year riding veteran and actuallyy was unfortunate enough to own a '72 iron head Sporty during his many years astride Milwaukee iron. We wound up sharing a booth at the Bob Evans restaurant adjacent to the hotel and tossing  riding stories back and forth through dinner. A very pleasant visit with a fellow motorcyclist.

Tomorrow I head on to Troy, Illinois to visit with Buffalo's Kid and the grand kids. Looking forward to it. Time to get some shut eye. Opened the window and listening to raccoons in the woods behind the hotel...sorta' like home. Well, no, not really.

Peace~
