Hot Start to the 2018 Road Trip

As planned, I departed on Saturday morning for a diagonal run across Ohio to the little hippy town of Yellow Springs, Ohio. It was already 70 plus degrees when I headed out of Warren at a little past 8am. I grabbed some breakfast grub at the Bob Evans in Salem, OH before heading

south on route 9 to catch 39 west. What a beautiful morning ride I had. And all the time, I couldn't help but thinking how much I wished my Buffalo was along for the ride.As I rolled through the twisties, scraping the footboards a couple of times, I couldn't help but thinking about how much he made it possible for me to do the things I love. He gave me the spirit, the strength, the purpose and the wisdom, to go on the journeys he missed. And today starts another.

And what an end to the day it was. Yellow Springs was all I expected and so much more. A liberal artsy community, much like Oberlin, OH up north, a college town, this weekend, unbeknownst to me, was their gay pride weekend. Well, that was certainly a surprise. But I am ok with who people are and I found a community full of accepting, kind and open people. I wandered the streets and shops and loved the atmosphere.

The town was a mix of indoor and outdoor venues, with art scattered about for the enjoyment of all. This is common for these types of communities. They want people to enjoy the atmosphere and surround themselves with the experience. Yellow Springs was much this type of place. There were outdoor sculptures and places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Despite the heat, people were comfortable finding a shady spot and reveling in the experience. It was the kind of place you love... if you aren't in motorcycle riding apparel.

I headed to my lodging for the evening, the Springs Motel. The kind of place I can totally love.. a 1950s circa road side motel. Chairs outside the rooms facing the highway. Totally dated everything in the room. I love this kind of stuff. Don't want it every night on the road, but love it every chance it is right. And tonight, it was right. My name was on the door and the room was unlocked. I mean, how much more Americana does it get?

Tomorrow I ride around Cincinnati and hit route 50 west. Stay tuned. Looking forward to seeing some of Americana.

A few more pictures from the day...

I am pretty sure they were referencing bicycles!

I asked the proprietor for a cup for my adult beverages... she gave me a mug and told me to keep it!

dinner at the pizza joint that had a pretty good salad bar

ok so the sign pointed down the hall to restrooms, and there were these closet like rooms with toilets! LOL
