Old Pacific

It was the early 1900's when two pioneers decided to cross this great land of ours. There were no paved roads and, in many cases, there were, quite literally, no roads!! Tom Fetch, an employee of the Packard Motor Car Company of Warren, Ohio, took this piece of "modern machinery" 3,200 miles from San Francisco to New York City at an average speed of 22 miles per hour. Some of their trials and challenges were photographed and are documented here. For those of you who complain about pot holes and bad roads...well, you rightfully do so with the amount of taxes we pay and expect a smooth ride. But on the other hand, these guys really put a new perspective on our experiences today.

Old Pacific is here today for our viewing pleasure thanks to Terry and John Martin, who restored this beauty and then recreated the trip their predecessors took recently. Although these modern gentlemen were blessed with the glory of asphalt and concrete, considering the current state of our roads these days, maybe the gravel and dirt would be more attractive. Thank you, gentlemen, for sharing and preserving the past for those of us who could not appreciate it but for what you have done.
