Arkansas Riding at It's Best!

So after we got all the repairs to the fender done and duct taped the saddle bag up, we made our way from Paris up to I-40 looking for a breakfast joint. From where we ate, we are on route 71 which will take us north to route 74, the scenic way to our cabin we have reserved in Jasper. Wouldn't you know it, we get about half way up 71 and the road is closed! So it's back on interstate until we find the cut off for 74, which turns out to be an awesome ride...well, other than the few miles where it turns to gravel. That was most of our day on Tuesday.

Wednesday we spent the day running the “Moonshine” loop shown in our Ozark motorcycle guide, after we did laundry, of course, since we were both almost out of clothes that didn't stink! What a fantastic ride that was. We got on a road that was soooo twisty that they did not allow any trucks. Check out the signs. Met a huge group of riders a few miles out of Jasper before hitting the twisty part of 123. There are motorcycles all over up here. You can't go any place without running into them. We also had a close encounter of the elk kind on the ride today. A female was standing off to the side of the road in Boxley Canyon, where they have repopulated the area with elk from Colorado. They are beautiful and fit in to the natural surroundings very well. The Buffalo River carves it's way through the canyon and is a very popular canoe and raft destination.

Then on our way back down route 7 from Harrison to Jasper we got to see one of the many semi trucks that managed to run off the road. According to the locals up here, that is a regular occurance. Go figure, windy mountain roads and big trucks going way too fast.
